The pulsing centre of the city
The Zentralplatz
After many years of hibernation, in 2013 Koblenz’s central square reawakened and is now the vibrant centre of the city on the Rhine and Moselle. In addition to the Mittelrhein Forum – one of the most modern shopping centres in the region – art and culture have also found a new home with the Forum Confluentes.
The Zentralplatz was only created after the Second World War during the reconstruction of Koblenz, so it did not evolve over the course of time like the other squares in the Koblenz old town. This area was densely built-up with half-timbered houses before the Second World War and was completely devastated by heavy air raids on Koblenz.
The Zentralplatz was created as part of the reconstruction. Part of the medieval city wall stood here until its demolition in the middle of the 1960s.
