Interactive. Innovative. Informative.
The Romanticum
Opened in 2013, the Romanticum takes visitors aboard a virtual ship on a Germany-wide unique, multi-media Rhine journey through the UNESCO “Upper Middle Rhine Valley” world heritage site.
In ten separate, differently designed exhibition areas with over 70 interactive stations, passengers can experience the unique landscape of the UNESCO world heritage site, get to know the Rhine in all its aspects with all of its legends, sights and myths.
Nowhere else can you find: Exhibition content to take home
The exhibition has a total of 30 exhibits which give you the opportunity to save exhibition information on your admission ticket which you can retrieve later either at home or on-the-go. A small internet page is created for every visitor where the content collected is saved after their visit.
Every individual exhibit is unique and was made especially for the Romanticum. Visitors decide for themselves what they want to see and hear. The Romanticum is an interactive exhibition where you can be creative, make things, take photographs and even sing: You can rehearse the Loreley song in a cosy side room in a karaoke exhibit and hear it through a gramophone as they would have done 100 years ago. A “legend searchlight” awaits you on the deck of the imaginary steamboat which illuminates exciting stories from times gone by. Against the backdrop of the “Rhine theatre”, images of castles repeatedly appear which you can aim at with the “castle camera” to find out their name, history and more information. Come aboard! In the Romanticum you can encounter personalities that were closely linked to the Rhine, from Goethe to Heine, from Empress Augusta to Queen Victoria. Discover what Rhenish wines and culinary delights the river and its banks have to offer, or allow yourself to be enchanted by the legendary Loreley and share the fate of many a Rhine captain who succumbed to her voice and beauty for good.
