Consecrated in 2009, the Kapelle St. Martin (St. Martin’s Chapel) lies on Südallee at the entrance to the Stiftungsklinikum Mittelrhein.
Of particular interest is the eight by four metre chapel window designed by the renowned artist and rector of the Dusseldorf Academy of Fine Arts, Prof. Dr. Markus Lüpertz. It represents the patron saint of the chapel on his horse and gives the chapel an exceptional atmosphere.
The balanced architecture and the harmoniously-designed interior with natural materials and colours make the hospital chapel a place of peace and tranquillity. Lüpertz intently studied religious guidelines and the solution of having all figurative orientations bears his trademark. Stylised snowflakes whirl around the saint on his horse and emphasise the compassion of the cloak donation. The cloak is highlighted in bright symbolic red.
The chapel is open daily from 6am to 8pm for visitors and tours.
